DowieGateDisgrace...........Court Day Six

por | | 0 comments

Round Six - Day Six - Wednesday 16th May 2007

In Court today...

Iain Dowie claimed his bitter £2 million High Court wrangle with Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has destroyed his managerial reputation.

The former Crystal Palace manager spoke of the "very abusive, ultra-aggressive, demeaning and angry" telephone call with chairman Simon Jordan that signalled the end of his time at the club.

He told a top judge that he was prepared for Mr Jordan to be "upset" after the club failed to win promotion to the Premiership in May 2006.

And, from past experience, he also said he knew that the club chairman "would be aggressive and outspoken".

But Dowie told the High Court: "I was not prepared for the way that Simon spoke to me on the telephone and the very abusive, ultra-aggressive, demeaning and angry nature of the call."

"Simon shouted and swore at me constantly."

"I was used to Simon being aggressive and swearing, but this was by far the worst I had ever experienced either by Simon or generally in my time in football."

Dowie is being sued by Palace for alleged 'fraudulent misrepresentations' when he left the club last summer and joined Charlton Athletic.

He told the court: "The litany of personal abuse didn't help my chances of finding work after I left Charlton."

Tale of the Tape: Dowie 7, Jordan 6
Temperature: Damp start but brighter with sunny spells by mid-afternoon 21*C

The case continues on Friday 18th May...

Robert Andrew Woolmer 1948 - 2007

por | | 0 comments

It is with heartfelt sorrow that such a charismatic, popular, and talented thespian in the shape of Bob Woolmer should die so suddenly at the age of only 58, but to have been 'murdered' is truly devastating news to his family, relatives, friends, fellow students of the game, cricket fans and in fact all sports fans in general.

I ask you, will International competitive sport ever be able to fully recover from this tragedy.

The truth about why he was murdered is still unclear, however there are numerous rumours flying around, as one might suspect under the circumstances.
We are all aware of the corruption/match fixing allegations coinciding with the imminent release of his book, as put forward by many a journalist this past week.
But if it does turn out that corruption has played a part in his death, then how can we the public ever trust the outcome of any sporting event in the future to have been truly genuine.
Most of us like a flutter, as it adds to the interest of the event in question, and as in all sports there are always going to be shock results and outcomes.
Cricket is in the spotlight this next week, but next week it could be football, horse racing, golf, tennis.....whatever.

In professional sport 'greed' is the root of all evil.
People, human beings like you & I will always be susceptible to the lure of making money, even if you already have plenty. It may seem improbable that you will be suspected let alone caught. Who will know if you are not giving your best, not trying your hardest, not bothered if you win, lose or draw - if you can cash in big time.

Nobody.....until one day it all goes wrong, as inevitably it will, and you and/or your family are caught up in something bigger & more dangerous than you can handle!
You may not even have been involved directly. You may have been an unsuspecting pawn in a real life crime.

Mr.Woolmer may not have been involved, but he may have been aware of certain instances where match fixing was apparent in the sub-continent.
Knowing too much about something may turn out to have been instrumental behind his 'murder.'
Information & knowledge are powerful tools and may have proved in this instance to have been as dangerous as taking part in the practice itself!

Sincere and heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Gill and sons Dale and Russell.

He will surely live in the hearts of his cricket fans in England, South Africa, Pakistan and all over the world.

Bob Woolmer
Career History:

1968: Debut for Kent.

1972: One-day international debut for England.

1976: Selected as one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year.

1977: The Centenary Test in Melbourne and England went on to take the Ashes 3-0.
Bob signed for Kerry Packer, and the establishment is not amused.

1984: He retired from first class cricket.

1991: Appointed Director of Coaching at Warwickshire County Club in England.

1994: Warwickshire won 3 out of 4 trophies and were runners up in the NatWest series.
He was appointed coach of South Africa

1994-1999: South Africa won 71% of its one-day internationals, and 10 out of 15 Test series under Woolmer.

2004: Appointed Pakistan's coach.

2007: The Pakistan team crashed out of the World Cup after being shocked by debutants Ireland. Found unconscious in his hotel room in the West Indies and later died in a hospital in Jamaica.

**Please do not make failures and successes on cricket fields a matter of life and death.

Beaver Buzz Chronic Energy Review

Beaver Buzz Chronic Energy Review
Surely you can imagine why I bought this drink - yes, because I have never seen it before, not because of the "chronic" marketing. A 473 mL Beaver Buzz? I have seen a few cans this size before, but the company has shifted over to slim 355 mL ones. The "flavour" is not even on their website. I paid the usual $2.99 CAD for the drink.

The drink is dark purple, darker than other energy drinks I have tried. It has a grape/black currant taste with a slight medicine undertone, which is not as noticeable as other drinks like Monster. The aftertaste is pleasant with hints of grape. The sweetness of the drink escalates with time. The first few sips I had were very carbonated and did not notice how sweet the drink was. With time, the energy drink was becoming flat sitting in my mug (the can had a dirty top) and tasted sweeter. Overall this energy drink tastes OK, but the flavour is very ordinary, not something I was expecting from Beaver Buzz. They make some of the best tasting energy drinks and even though most of the flavours are very common among energy drink makers, Beaver Buzz always put their own twist on everything...This has no such twist.

There is a lot of caffeine in this can - 200 mg. This amount makes Beaver Buzz Chronic Energy a very powerful grape/black currant flavoured energy drink. This weekend I went camping and when I came back, I was exhausted from the lack of sleep. This drink really woke me up Monday morning.

Scores:
Cost - $2.99 CAD for a 473 mL can from 7-11
Taste - 7.9/10
Energy - 8.0/10

Overall - 15.9/20...tastes better than Monster MIXXD and has more caffeine

President's Choice Mojito Mocktail Review

por | | 0 comments

President's Choice Mojito Mocktail Review
$2.99 for 4!!!!! This shit is cheap. But is it good yo? It's alright I guess. It tastes like lemon/lime pop drink with some added lime juice (as in the lime concentrate you buy in small, green squeeze bottles that resemble limes) and a bit of mint for that mojito-like taste. But you guessed it, the main ingredient, rum,is missing.

I would buy a pack again as it is quite refreshing and the cans are 250 mL. I only say this because most times I don't feel like drinking an entire pop can, and these are smaller.

Scores:
Cost - 10/10 ($2.99 CAD per pack, or just under $0.75 per can)
Taste - 6.9/10

Overall - 16.9/20...i would buy it again, and maybe even try the other mocktail flavours

Grilled Asian Pork Tenderloin with Peanut Sauce

por | | 0 comments

FineCooking.com
Pork...the other white meat!

Servings: Serves four to five

Ingredients:
1 cup light coconut milk
1/2 cup smooth, natural peanut butter
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoon ground coriander
2 small pork tenderloins (about 2 pounds)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the grill

Directions
In a large bowl, whisk the coconut milk, peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, garlic, and coriander to make a smooth sauce.

Trim the pork of excess fat; butterfly the tenderloins by splitting each one lengthwise almost but not quite all the way through, so the halves remain attached.

Open each tenderloin like a book, cover with plastic wrap, and pound to an even 1/2-inch thickness with a meat mallet or the bottom of a small skillet. Put the pork tenderloins in the bowl with the marinade and turn to coat. Cover with plastic wrap, and let sit for 2 hours at room temperature, or overnight in the refrigerator.

When you're ready to cook the pork...heat a gas grill with burners on high. Clean and oil the grate. Remove the tenderloins from the marinade, letting excess marinade drip back into the bowl (don't discard the marinade).

Grill the tenderloins, covered, turning once, until just cooked through, 5 to 7 minutes total (cut into one to check). Transfer to a carving board and let rest for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, pour the marinade into a small saucepan and add 2 tablespoons water; bring to a boil (*WARNING: This liquid MUST be brought to a boil to kill any bacteria from raw meat juices), reduce the heat, and simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat. If the sauce seems too thick, thin it with 1 or 2 teaspoons water. Slice the pork and serve with the sauce on the side.

Serving Suggestion: Serve with steamed jasmine rice and stir-fried snow peas or vegetable mix.

Jolt Wild Grape Energy Drink Review

por | | 0 comments

Jolt Wild Grape Energy Drink Review
I love opening Jolts. There is just something very satisfying about that small initial explosion. Opening an already open one is not as satisfying, but it somewhat works. I found another one, again at a 7-11 for the same cost - $1.99 CAD. I think my camera has problems capturing purple. The top is supposed to be less blue and more purple, kind of like the outline of the "J".

Well, the Wild Grape is purple and has a very pleasant concord grape smell. Its taste would have been just as pleasant if it wasn't for the energy ingredients this thing is packed with. The drink has the usual Jolt undertone of ginseng and some other energy things. The finish is quite nice though - very concord grape like. Of course the taste and finish get sweeter as the drink is consumed. Jolt Wild Grape is an average to OK grape flavoured energy drink. One way they could have improved it, is by making the taste a bit bolder. The flavour really gets lost among the carbonation and the energy ingredients taste.

The caffeine amount is once again standardized to 189.2 mg. I had about half the drink in one sitting and then packed it up for the road. Once again I have to say that I absolutely love this type of can with the cap. The energy boost is like all other Jolts.

Scores:
Cost - $1.99 CAD for a 473 mL can
Taste - 7.5/10
Energy - 8/10

Overall - 15.5/20...the taste is a bit weak, but there is plenty of caffeine to make up for the taste

Check out the other Jolts I have tried:

My Lily Tier Cake

My Lily Tier Cake
This cake was my final project for Wilton Course 3. I made the lilies and leaves with royal icing a few days ahead of time. The 6 inch and 10 inch tiers are both lemon cake with a homemade raspberry filling. I crumbcoated them with a buttercream frosting and then topped them with a homemade marshmallow, lemon fondant. I thought it turned out very well. A perfect cake for Easter. Too bad Easter is still a couple weeks away.

Beaver Buzz Core Energy Drink Review

por | | 0 comments

Beaver Buzz Core Energy Drink Review
I went to a different 7-11 last night to see if they have anything different. I came out with a Beaver Buzz Energy Drink, the Core one. I really didn't know what to expect from a drink with a Core flavour. This Beaver Buzz cost me $2.59 CAD, which is $0.60 CAD more than what Shoppers Drug Mart sells them for.

The easiest way to describe this is to say that it tastes like the regular Monster. This beverage even has the same yellow color. There is a slight difference in taste though, the Beaver Buzz Core does not have the same, strong cough syrup taste. It is still present, but it is very mild. Also, this one taste a bit sweeter than Monster, but the sweetness does not last long. If you gulp it down real quick, you will experience a taste that is very sweet towards the end, but it fades away very fast in the aftertaste. Weird. Another subtle difference is the slight sour aftertaste once the sweetness has gone away.

Now, about the energy boost. There are two labels on the back and of course the two list different caffeine amounts. Before you say that they list the caffeine on different basis, they do not. Both the labels give caffeine amounts on a per can basis. One gives 100 mg caffeine, the other 150 mg. Also, both the labels give ginseng, guarana and taurine amounts so it is not like the greater caffeine amount already includes the caffeine from the ginseng and guarana extracts. If you know anything about this difference in caffeine content, let me know.

Scores:
Cost - $2.59 CAD from 7-11
Taste - 6.9/10...not a big fan of the Monster taste, but I am giving this one a slightly higher score because of the subtle differences
Energy - 7.2/10

Overall - 14.1/20...not bad, but you might want to try the Berry Beaver Buzz or the Green Tea Beaver Buzz

Banana Cake

por | | 0 comments

Makes 18 servings

One of our family favorites! This Banana Cake is a fabulous way to use up very, very ripe bananas—in fact, the blacker the banana peels...the better the recipe tastes. This is a very moist cake which is easily made in a sheet pan so it works great for potlucks or picnics. It is very delicious! I have made this with all white flour; an alternate with all wheat flour and this way with a mix of both ~ cooking is about experimenting so have fun!

Ingredients

Sift together in large bowl:
1 cup Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
1 cup All Purpose Flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice

Mix in:
1 cup Splenda Granular
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 1/4 cups Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Beat In:
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 cups Bananas, Mashed

Add In:
4 Eggs, one at a time

Beat In:
1/4 cup flaked Coconut
1/2 cup chopped Walnuts

Directions
Spread batter into 12x18 pan which has been sprayed lightly with Pam™.

Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool. Cut into 18 squares and serve.

Frosting options:

  •  Frost with your favorite cream cheese frosting and 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts;
  • Sift Splenda Powdered Sugar* over the top;
  • Serve unfrosted with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of Cool Whip

'Quote of the Week' - Gordon Strachan

por | | 0 comments

May I thank 'Mr Celtic' for a comment he made this week that was so simplistic, yet true that every walking, talking living doll that has ever been out on the lash can relate to it.
I was greatly touched that the 'Sweaty Sock' should include me (and you) when he addressed the point in question to his players and staff alike.
Cheers Gordon!

He said:- "Going out drinking doesn't help team spirit. When you drink you just tell lies and talk rubbish"

I say:- Guilty as charged.
As a consequence may I suggest this weekend that we all celebrate our inclusion into the lifestyles of the football emporium by talking nonsense whilst necking copious amounts of liquor, starting with a wee dram of finest Highland Malt Whisky in honour of Mr.Strachan, even if it does stunt your growth.
God Bless you all!

Title: Super Nova to Black Hole - IFA Quote of the Week #70

http://ifarcs.com - http://ifa.com - http://ifa.com/quoteoftheweek/index70.asp - William Bernstein, author of The Investors Manifesto: Preparing for Prosperity, Armageddon and Everything In Between, talks of the Big Lie. Here, refers to the myth that while indexing works for large-cap stocks, active managers still possess an edge in picking foreign and small-cap stocks.

While this big lie has been supported by some industry heavyweights, ie Fidelity chief Robert Pozen who said, "Active managers beat the relevant indexes on a regular basis for things like international funds, small-cap funds, etc.," this assertion bears no basis in reality. Active managers do not beat the indexes on a regular basis --unless by regular you mean a vast minority of the time. In fact, active managers typically fail—by a huge percentage of some 92% across asset classes, including large-cap, small-cap, emerging markets, international and fixed income. No, active funds do not regularly beat indexes over the long term.

Here are several comparisons of active equity fund managers versus index funds or indexes. As you can see passive beats active no matter how you slice it.

These many equity and fixed income studies show that when William Bernstein refers to The Big Lie, there is no exaggeration in the use of the adjective big. It fact, its quite an understatement. The scope of the deception that managers beat markets is enormous, and sadly quite destructive to an individuals ability to accumulate wealth. Investors who rely on the false promise that managers add value pay more to earn less. The weighted average expense ratio on international active funds is three times higher than its passively managed counterpart and they clearly do not justify the increased expense.

'Best Bet Special' - 2nd Leg Play-Off Betting Tips with Betfair

por | | 0 comments

Hello and welcome to the second leg of my 'special' edition guest blog. I am going to be previewing this week's 2nd leg play-off fixtures, and in particular those games involving Championship sides.
Drama, nerves and excitement are guaranteed, but hopefully I can also try and win you some cash with my best bet tips.

I told you last Wednesday predicting the play-off was hard, and as if to prove the point a narrow victory for Burnley was the only game I got right! Here’s hoping for better luck this week:

Sheff United v Preston - 2nd leg

Mon 11th May KO 19.45 LIVE ON SKY SPORTS

It is still all to play for at Bramall Lane after the two sides couldn’t be separated in the first game at Deepdale. Sean St Ledger gave Preston the lead only to be pegged by back Brian Howard minutes into the second half. With no away goals rule this one could go all the way to penalty kicks.

Current Match odds:

Sheff U 11/10 Preston 3/1 Draw 12/5

Scorecast:
Sheff U 1-0 7/1 2-0 17/2 2-1 8/1 3-0 17/1

Preston 0-1 17/2 0-2 20/1 1-2 13/1 0-3 69/1

Draw 0-0 17/2 1-1 6/1 2-2 15/1

My 'best bet' prediction:

It is almost too close to call but I am going to stick my neck out and tips United to go through - but only after extra time or penalties. I think it will be level after the 90 minutes.
1-1 draw @ 15/2

Reading v Burnley - 2nd leg

Tuesday 12th May KO 19.45 LIVE ON SKY SPORTS

Despite having an array of attacking talent on show, Saturday’s first leg failed to live up to expectations. The game looked to be heading for a bore draw until a moment of madness by Andre Bikey. The Reading defender inexplicably pulled back Stephen Thompson in the area with only six minutes of the match remaining. Referee Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot, and Graham Alexander duly converted the penalty to give the Clarets a vital first-leg lead.

Current Match odds:

Reading Evens Burnley 16/5 Draw 5/2

Scorecast:
Reading 1-0 7/1 2-0 9/1 2-1 8/1 3-0 20/1

Burnley 0-1 12/1 0-2 25/1 1-2 14/1 0-3 79/1

Draw 0-0 10/1 1-1 6/1 2-2 16/1

My 'best bet' prediction:

Steve Coppell's Reading team are in poor form of late, and they will have to produce a much improved performance on Tuesday night if they want to progress any further.
Meanwhile Owen Coyle's Burnley have been going great guns of late, and I fancy them to grind out a draw at the Madejski Stadium, and book themselves a place at Wembley on May 25th.
O-O draw @ 10/1

The Best Of The Rest:
Eight other teams face off this week in the race to earn promotion from Leagues One and Two.

Here are my predictions:

Home wins:
Sunday 10th May KO 18.30 Gillingham v Rochdale
Thursday 14th May KO 19.45 Leeds v Millwall

Draws:
Sunday 10th May KO Noon Bury v Shrewsbury
Friday 15th May KO 19.45 MK Dons v Scunthorpe

Arizona Black & White Iced Tea Review

Arizona Black & White Iced Tea Review
I bought another Arizona iced tea import from the US from the local convenience store. I generally buy the Green Tea Iced Tea with Ginseng & Honey because that flavour is sold many places in Canada, so when I saw the Black & White tea variant, I just had to try it and compare.

The black & white tea combination is a rather odd one because black tea is much stronger than white tea. The good folks who make Arizona have, somehow, managed to make both flavours stand out in this beverage. Both the smell and taste are dominated by sweet black tea, but the finish is surprisingly light and tastes more like white tea than black. The iced tea is, of course, sweetened, but not too much. Unlike the Green Tea, the ginseng flavour in this Arizona is lost. The presence of honey is almost lost as well, except in the aftertaste when it comes on top of the white tea taste. I really enjoyed this black & white iced tea beverage and will definitely buy it again in the future.

Scores:
Cost - $1.29 CAD for a 680 mL can
Taste - 8.9/10

Overall - 8.9/10...great iced tea

Mr Brown Cappuccino Review

por | | 0 comments
Mr Brown Cappuccino Review

I have seen this drink in several major supermarkets. It's always in the international aisle, rather than the drinks one. There are several different kinds and the one I picked was the cappuccino flavour. The price does not vary much - I bought mine for $0.97 CA from t & t while other places sell them for $0.99.

The drink does not taste as good as other iced coffees. It tastes like sweetened milk with a mild coffee flavour. I don't even think that it's real milk because the aftertaste is a bit sour. The coffee taste is stronger after you are done drinking it, but it does not taste as good as other iced coffees.

I didn't feel much of an energy boost, but I was not really tired. I think that's an indication that this was developed to be a milk drink and the coffee taste was added as an afterthought.

I can only recommend this to those who enjoy milk beverages. If you are looking for an iced coffee that tastes more like coffee and has a bit of sugar and milk added, look somewhere else.

Scores:
Cost - 10/10 ($0.97 CA)
Taste - 4.9/10
Performance - 1/10

Overall - 15.9/30...the only reason why this gets a passing grade is because it's cheap and those who enjoy milk beverages
might enjoy this one

5-hour Energy Extra Strength Berry Flavour Review

por | | 0 comments

5-hour Energy Extra Strength Berry Flavour Review
I am not a big fan of the 5-hour energy shots mostly because they don't like to list the caffeine content of the label. The only statement included is the amount of "energy blend" added to the shot. How is the Extra Strength any different from the regular shots? It just has more of the energy blend. I paid $3.39 for the shot at 7-11, which also makes it one of the more expensive ones. I do like the solid black packaging.

This shot actually smells like berries, which is always a good start. The taste, however, is not as good as the aroma coming being given off. It is sweet and sour as well as a bit soapy. The sourness attacks the tongue right away and I felt like I was licking a lemon. There is some berry taste, but it's lost among the sweetness and sourness of the shot. The first sip is also bitter, but once the sour taste attacks the tongue, most of the bitterness goes away. The aftertaste is both sour and sweet with notes of artificial berry flavouring and some bitter soapiness. There is something rough in the shot as each sip felt like was grinding my throat. It's as if I was drinking some bourbon.

Here is where I usually say how much caffeine the product contains, but all I can say is that this shot contains 1,360 mg of the 5-hour energy blend, the ingredients of which are listed below. I started to wake up around 15 minutes after consuming the shot and I did not experience any jitters...well, not at first. A few minutes later I began to calm down and focus on the tasks I was doing. I love shots like this one, ones that help you calm and focus until the caffeine kicks in fully. This feeling lasted for about 20 minutes when the caffeine started to work its magic and I started to feel a bit jittery. The jitters didn't last long and made way for the clean energy, which was rather odd. It came and went like waves for several hours. At the end I wasn't tired, but I just didn't feel all that focused or energized. The shot worked OK, but it definitely did no provide 5 hours of energy.

Medicinal Ingredients:
  • Phenylalanine
  • Niacin - 40 mg
  • Vitamin B6 - 40 mg
  • Folic Acid - 400 mcg
  • Vitamin B12 - 500 mcg
  • Sodium - 18 mg
  • Energy Blend - 1,360 mg (Citicoline, Glucuronolactone, N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine, L-Phenylalanine, Taurine, Malic Acid, Caffeine)
Non-Medicinal Ingredients: purified water, natural & artificial flavours, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and EDTA, sucralose.

Scores:
Cost - $3.39 CAD for a 60 mL shot
Taste - 5.9/10
Energy - 8/10

Overall - 13.9/20...needs more of the energy blend

XS Energy Drink Cranberry-Grape Blast Caffeine-Free Review

por | | 0 comments
XS Energy Drink Cranberry-Grape Blast Caffeine-Free Review
Today I am trying the caffeine-free version of the Cranberry-Grape Blast energy drink made by XS. The difference between the caffeine-free and the regular version is, you guessed it, the lack of caffeine. This is done by simply removing all the ingredients which contain caffeine. Also, don't think for a second, that other active ingredients, such as taurine, have been removed as well. If they were taken out of the can, this energy drink would be nothing more than an overpriced sugar-free soda drink.

Taste

The taste is similar to the regular cranberry-grape energy drink, but not quite identical. This one has a stronger cranberry taste, though it only appears for brief moments of time before it's overpowered by something that tastes like a combination of coffee and chocolate. This strange twist was also seen in Slimquick's energy shot from about a year ago. I would have to conclude that the removal of the active ingredients has had some impact on the taste, especially the finish, which resembles mocha lattes more than anything else.

Energy

As expected, the buzz from this caffeine-free drink is not as good as that from the regular energy drink, but it still gives you a surprising kick...though very minor. Being a sugar-free drink on top of everything, the kick comes in slow and resembles something of a jolt because it lasts a very short time. If you don't normally drink energy drinks or coffee, but are looking for a boost, this might be a good one for you, but if you are one of those people that has to have a coffee or an energy drink to wake up, I suggest you look somewhere else for a boost worthy of your time.

Scores:
Cost -works out to about $3.66, delivered
Taste - 6.5/10
Energy - 3/10

Overall - 9.5/20...almost a pass, but without a serious caffeine-free boost, it would be hard to pass

Title: Energy Drink Flaws

Energy drinks are a growing industry, but some question how much energy beverages actually generate. As Russ Mitchell reports, a young researcher finds that high energy drinks are running on empty.

Title: Dr Whiting on The Dangers of Energy Drinks

http://healthyinformation.com (CLICK HERE)

Energy drinks have become increasingly popular in recent years. There are many brands on the market such as the 5-Hour Energy Drink, Rockstar Energy Drink, Burn Energy Drink, Full Throttle Energy Drink, Amp Energy Drink, Monster Energy Drink and others. Each contain caffeine and some have added stimulants such as guarana, an herbal form of more caffeine, as well as ginseng. Most of these drinks, in moderation, are probably relatively harmless for healthy people. However, when consumed to excess or by those with certain medical conditions, they can be very dangerous. Younger people, as young as 6 or 8 years old, are also consuming these drinks. In this age group the effects of caffeine are dramatically increased. Energy drinks, such as the 5-Hour Energy Drink, Rockstar Energy Drink, Burn Energy Drink, Full Throttle Energy Drink, Amp Energy Drink, Monster Energy Drink and others, are consumed primarily for the buzz or energy high that the caffeine and other stimulants can provide. Unfortunately, most of these drinks also produce a let down or crash, leaving the user to consume another drink to boost energy again. Repeated use or abuse of these highly charged caffeine drinks could lead to increased side effects. The harmful effects of caffeine, guarana, ginseng and other herbal extracts accelerate at potentially alarming rates when multiple doses of these drinks are consumed. People have been using caffeine in various forms, including Energy Drinks for a long time. What users dont often understand is that the boost of energy obtained from these drinks is temporary and that the crash can last a lot longer than the high. The side effects of energy drinks such as the 5-Hour Energy Drink, Rockstar Energy Drink, Burn Energy Drink, Full Throttle Energy Drink, Amp Energy Drink, Monster Energy Drink and others, can increase in those persons with certain other health challenges such as diabetes, hypoglycemia, heart conditions and other chronic disorders.
Caffeine can lower blood sugar in some individuals causing moderate to severe hypoglycemic episodes, which can be very disturbing and dangerous. If the drinks combine herbal stimulants with the caffeine, this can increase the potential blood sugar problems. Another factor to also consider is the often very high amounts of sugar in most of these energy drinks a factor that further complicates diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Individuals suffering from a variety of cardiovascular problems should use caution when consuming these energy drinks. Over stimulation of the central nervous system by caffeine, guarana, and ginseng can lead to a variety of arrhythmias, and other heart beat issues. Those with pacemakers also should be concerned. Another common practice among younger people is the combining of alcohol with their favorite energy drink. Alcohol is a downer and as such provides clear signs of when the consumer has had enough. By using the stimulating effects of energy drinks together with alcohol, the user can often drink far more and not be aware of their degree of intoxication. This can be dangerous for many reasons. If one wishes to use Energy Drinks, they should not combine these with alcoholic beverages of any kind.

Since both alcohol and caffeine are dehydrating agents, their combination can severely lower fluid levels in the body. If this is combined with dancing in a hot nightclub for example the dehydration can reach critical and deadly levels. There are many countries in Europe where high potency energy drinks such as the 5-Hour Energy Drink, Rockstar Energy Drink, Burn Energy Drink, Full Throttle Energy Drink, Amp Energy Drink, Monster Energy Drink and others have been banned completely. This was due to the fact that several athletes have died while exercising or training and using these energy drinks for sustained performance enhancement. Likely many of these fatalities were caused by severe dehydration.
