I finally found it, the last of the Red Rain flavours. I got this bad boy at Wal-Mart for $4.97 CAD per 4 pack. Yes, the rumors are true, you can get 4 packs of Red Rain for only $4.97 CAD and 4 packs of Red Bull for $6.97. There are also 4 packs of Guru regilar and sugar free for the same low price of $6.97 for a 4 pack. That is so cheap - $5 for 4 cans. Why the hell am I buying these from the local 7-11 for $2 per can? I should just go to Wal-Mart once per week and get 2-3 packs of these.
I still haven't tasted acai berries so I cannot say for sure if this flavour captures the taste. It does taste a lot like blueberries though, which I assume is why it is called Acai-Blu. The blueberry taste is actually quite nice - not too sweet and a bit on the sour side. There is no obvious trace of artificial flavours eventhough the back label says there are some. This doesn't taste like other fruit energy drinks, it tastes a lot like a regular Red Rain with some of its flavour substituted with the acai-blueberry one. It still has a bit of the acidic Red Rain taste, but not as much, obviously. The aftertaste is pretty good too. It starts off with a blueberry aftertaste, moves onto the regular Red Rain acidic aftertaste and finishes clean all in 2-3 minutes time.
Same energy content - 80 mg. I got a nice boost early in the morning, but I am sure I have to go for seconds in a few hours. Good thing I got a 4 pack of these for $5.
Scores: Cost - $4.97 CAD per 4 Taste - 8.2/10 Energy - 6/10
Overall - 14.2/20...I would still buy the regular Red Rain, just because I enjoy the clean taste. This, however, is one of the better fruit energy drinks I have had because of its low sweetness level
$2.99 for 4!!!!! This shit is cheap. But is it good yo? It's alright I guess. It tastes like lemon/lime pop drink with some added lime juice (as in the lime concentrate you buy in small, green squeeze bottles that resemble limes) and a bit of mint for that mojito-like taste. But you guessed it, the main ingredient, rum,is missing.
I would buy a pack again as it is quite refreshing and the cans are 250 mL. I only say this because most times I don't feel like drinking an entire pop can, and these are smaller.
Scores: Cost - 10/10 ($2.99 CAD per pack, or just under $0.75 per can) Taste - 6.9/10
Overall - 16.9/20...i would buy it again, and maybe even try the other mocktail flavours

Last year researchers at the Manchester University published a study that said 'beer goggles' really do exist and the brain child behind the survey even published a formula to calculate their effect.
Many men have used 'beer goggles' to justify something they have regretted the morning after the night before. This year some 'dickheads' from the University of Leicester are trying to rain on our parade as they try to chew up and spit out the only decent excuse us guys ever had for waking up the morning after a skinfull with the 'devil woman' lying next to you.........but if recent research is to be believed we can forget the 'beer goggles' excuse from now on!
A psychological study suggests that far from alcohol making men find women prettier, it might even have the opposite effect - making them less attracted to potential mates. Apparently the demon drink also makes no difference to men's ability to judge a woman's age, and booze also makes no difference to a man's ability to guess a woman's age, the research found.
Scientists asked a group of 240 men and women in bars and cafes to look at photos of women and comment on their age and attractiveness. Half the participants used in the experiment had consumed alcoholic drinks, with effects rated as 'relaxed and benign', 'blunted and disinherited,' 'boisterous and over-expressive', and 'unambiguously drunk.'
Some of the pictures of 10 young women aged 17 were digitally altered to make them appear younger or older. Make-up was also applied digitally to a number of images. The findings showed that alcohol reduced the ability of women to guess the age of the photo models, but not men. Both the effects of alcohol and prettifying a face with make-up had little effect on men's judgement.
Dr Vincent Egan, a Home Office advisor and his 'chuckle brother' colleagues, from the University of Leicester said: 'This study suggests that alcohol consumption and make-up use do not interfere with how old we perceive someone to be.'
Another interesting finding was that overall participants who drank alcohol actually rated all the women in the photos as less attractive, compared to the participants who hadn't drunk alcohol.
This seemingly flies in the face of the commonly held notion of 'beer goggles.' Participants consistently over-estimated the age of both mature and immature faces by an average of three and a half years.
Reporting their results in the British Journal of Psychology, the researchers wrote: 'Although alcohol limited the processing of maturity cues in female observers, it had no effect on the age perceptions of males viewing female faces, suggesting male mate preferences are not easily disrupted.' 'Beer goggles’ could really be the result of lowered inhibitions, or that people are more willing to take a risk.
They clearly didn't use subjects that were drunk enough. After only a few drinks when peoples' inhibitions loosen up it's much easier for them to be mean. You need to get people past that and to the pissed/drunk stage where people just don’t give a toss any more.
Eagan said: 'Men over-estimate women’s ages and this study backs that up' and added 'it also shows that drink has nothing to do with it.'
On a more serious note, they said the influence of alcohol should not be a mitigating factor in the case of a man accused of having sex with someone under-age. 'Our study suggests that even heavy alcohol consumption does not interfere with age-perception tasks in men, so is not of itself an excuse for apparent mistaken age in cases of unlawful sex with a minor,' they wrote.
However if the research from Manchester University needed confirmation then the 'boffins' at Bristol University also claim ‘beer goggles’ really do exist, and it takes less than two pints to distort people's opinions.
According to one report, Vodka-drinkers were told to rate the appeal of 20 male and 20 female faces on a seven-point scale. The same faces were shown to volunteers who had consumed only soft drinks. The boozers scored the faces 10 per cent higher. And the effect on men lasted up to 24 hours after alcohol consumption - giving blokes something more than just a hangover to worry about!
Scaremongering or not, in effect this report is saying one and a half pints is all it takes to make a bloke lose the ability to distinguish the difference between a beauty and a beast.
Once we've decided that 'beer goggles' are real, the next thing we need is a way to easily quantify the effect their having on our judgment in real time. That's where the easy to use Beer Google Calculator comes in handy, and is based on the formula originally developed by the geniuses at Manchester University.
Be sure to bookmark the Beer Goggle Calculator on your phone so that you can quickly find it in your time of need. And by 'time of need' I mean in a dimly lit soiled bar while you're waiting for drink number eleven.

According to the World Health Organisation top of the table for per capita drinking in the World is Luxembourg (15.6 litres per capita) followed by Ireland, with the U.K not far behind at 13.7 litres. Next is Hungary (13.6 litres), Moldova (13.2 litres), Czech Republic (13.0 litres), Croatia (12.3 litres) and Germany(12.0 litres). We are ahead of Russia (10.3 litres) and also the United States (8.6 litres).
It remains to be seen if one of the upsides of this recession will be a fall in drinking as more people re-evaluate their lifestyles, values and finances!
When I learned how to cook, the Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book was my best friend. My mother had purchased it in 1951 when she was a young wife. I still have the book; however it has definitely seen better days. This little piece of history has had the cover taped over and over again but I cannot rid myself of it as the worn pages remind me of cherished times. The book is bursting full of how-to's, recipes and lots of nostalgia so it will continue to reside with me as long as I have more tape to apply.
I fondly recall my ooo's and aaah's as I flipped from page to page especially enjoying the color pictures of baked goods. Learning to measure correctly and follow directions was sometimes frustrating; however the end result was always worth the effort. These are treasured childhood memories which I hold onto dearly.
When I got married in 1984 I was given the "new" Betty Crocker Cookbook and was so excited until I looked inside. The recipes had been changed so much that I barely recognized my old friend. The main difference was the fact that many of the recipes used boxed and processed ingredients like cake mixes, cans of soups and such.
Sometimes changing and improving things is really great; however I'm a firm believer in knowing how to actually cook....don't get me wrong - I've whipped up plenty of recipes using Cream of Mushroom soup; but I'm a good cook because I also know how to follow a recipe and make a homemade mushroom sauce.
I'll be sharing some recipes from my mom's old classic recipe books in the next few days, as well as her handwritten cards which were found in a little metal box (remember, recipe card boxes?).

New Applesauce Cake
First, make thick unsweetened applesauce (below). Then prepare 13" x 9"oblong pan with grease and flour.
Sift together 2 3/4 cups sifted Softasilk or 2 1/2 cups sifted Gold Medal flour 2 cups sugar 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 tsp soda 1 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp allspice
Add 1/2 cup soft shortening 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup walnuts, cut-up 1 cup raisins, cut-up Beat 2 minutes
Add 1 1/2 cups applesauce 1 very large egg (1/3 cup)
Temperature: 350 degrees F (moderate oven) Time: Bake oblong cake 45 to 50 minutes.
To make 1 1/2 cups applesauce: wash, quarter, and core 6 to 8 tart apples. Add 1/4 cup water. Cover and cook to a mush, stirring occasionally. Press through a siever or food mill.
Handwritten notes by my mom: Very tasty! Substituted 1 3/4 tsp. apple pie spice for cinnamon/cloves/allspice. Sprinkled powdered sugar on top.
It took months for this flavour to make its way across the border, but I waited patiently and always checked the fridges at gas stations, convenience stores and supermarkets. Now that it finally arrived, I couldn't wait to crack it open and drink it.
Taste
I was honestly expecting this to taste like orange soda, but was pleasantly surprised after the first sip. The taste starts off with a mellow, just a touch citric orange taste which quickly turns into a mildly sweet and lightly citrusy tangerine one. The finish is mostly of tangerines with a little orange flavour in the background. The back of the label states that there is mango flavouring, but I personally cannot detect any of it. Being a Xenergy, there is no sugar in this energy drink and its diet taste is surprisingly subtle. Usually diet drinks are dominated by artificial sweeteners, but not this. Having said that, I don't mean that you won't be able to taste the sweeteners, it's just that they are not as dominant, which makes this drink much better tasting than other diet energy drinks.
Energy
Being a black Xenergy, there are 200 mg of caffeine in the can and the effects of the drink start to become apparent within 15-20 minutes. Some jitters were experienced, but that was expected from an energy drink with this much caffeine. Once the jitters died down, the caffeine took full effect and the ride was pretty solid...for about 3-4 hours when I noticed I was starting to run out of steam. I did not experience a crash, but I just felt like riding the caffeine high some more.

Everton have been painfully shy in front of goal all season but are going to need their strikers to be on top form if they are to get all three points against Arsenal on Sunday at Goodison Park.
Arsene Wenger's men are riding high in the league despite losing three games and looking shaky. The defeat against Newcastle showed the continued fragility of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and the Gunners rode their luck against Wolves in midweek to earn a win.
Everton have recovered from the early season jitters to climb the Premier League table, and should certainly not be on the end of a 6-1 home thrashing like they were in this fixture last season. However despite home advantage and an improvement in results recently, the Toffees are still the outsiders in the Premier League betting at odds of 12/5 for the win with Betfred compared to the 6/5 on offer for Arsenal to take all three points.
David Moyes earned the manager of the month award for October, but he knows his team could be even higher if his misfiring strikers could score on a more regular basis.
Yakubu and Louis Saha have struggled as Everton have scored only 13 goals so far this season, but now the Toffees fans are hoping that Jermaine Beckford can be the one to fire them up the table.
He has been poor so far, but finally came to life with a brilliant last-minute goal against Bolton in midweek, the type of goal his team-mate Leighton Baines claims he has been doing "quite regularly" in training.
"He has now proved he can be a valuable asset for the club," said the defender.
While one goal does not a goalscoring legend make, it could fill the Everton fans with some optimism - especially as the Arsenal rearguard looks more vulnerable than in recent seasons. Beckford is 8/1 in the football odds to be first goalscorer, so this could be a good option, if the game is stalemate going into the latter stages.
With the right pressure in the correct areas the Blues should be able to cause the Gunners defensive problems, but they will have to be wary as the likes of Fabregas, Wilshire, Walcott, Chamakh and Arshavin could really trouble them on the break
My Tip of the Weekend:
Expect a tight game in which Arsenal will be too strong and take all three points back to London with a 1-0 win, a result which is 6/1 with Betfred.

I have had and used Koru strips for months now, but never got the chance to review them until today. Where can I start? I like the packaging, but there are only 4 strips and a sticker in each pack. It would have been a little nicer if the strips came in a package like the Listerine strips or the Diablo strips, but they come packed the following way:
Taste
The taste is sweet, minty and refreshing. It does have some bitterness to it, but it is not as bad as the Diablo strips or some bitter-tasting energy shots on the market. Not much else I can say about the taste.
Energy
The strips work pretty good. Though there are only 40 mg of active ingredients per strip, the delivery is quick and a jolt of energy comes in within minutes. The jolt also comes with a very focused feeling, which lasts for about 20-30 minutes. The energy kick does not last very long, but you do have 4 strips per pack for a total of 160 mg of active ingredients. Mine started to wear off within 40-50 minutes, but I just popped another one in my mouth and life was good again.
Breakfast on Christmas morning is a big deal in our house and we'll be including this as part of our buffet this year.
This version of Baked French Toast is a bit healthier than many other versions we've found. We've prepared this recipe with both real eggs and egg substitute and results were great either way.

{Christmas} Baked French Toast Ingredients:
4 ounces light cream cheese in a tub 4 ounces fat-free cream cheese in a tub 3/4 cup Splenda Granular (or white sugar) 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 6 large eggs, room temperature 3 cups nonfat milk 1 pound sourdough, or whole wheat bread (1-inch slices) 2 teaspoons powdered sugar (optional)
Beat cream cheeses, Splenda, butter, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
Blend in eggs, one at a time
Add milk and mix well.
Soak each bread slice in egg mixture and place into prepared pan.
Pour remaining batter over slices. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and even overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 40-45 minutes until puffed in center and lightly browned. Remove from oven and lightly dust with powdered sugar if desired.

I always liked going to the International House of Pancakes. When my kids were little and their dad would be on the road, I would take them to have breakfast for dinner. They just thought that was so cool and loved going. They still talk about that today. Now my bf and I like to go once in awhile when I dont feel like cooking. A few months ago tho I tried a different pancake that they make. They are called the Country Griddle Cakes and are made with cream of wheat. They have different texture, sort of chewy and yet light. We went there recently and found out they have a new menu and they are no longer on there! So I went hunting online to find a copycat recipe. I made it today for breakfast with some bacon and YUM it was a success so here it is for you.
IHOP Cream of Wheat Pancakes or Country Griddlecakes 1/ 1/4c. flour
1 1/2c. buttermilk (or make the sour milk version of it)
1/3c. cream of wheat, dry
1 egg
1/3c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4c. vegetable oil
1/2 tsp. salt
Heat a skillet over medium heat. (I used my electric griddle).In a large bowl, combine all ingredients until smooth. Pour the batter by 1/3c. portions into a pan coated with cooking spray and cook pancakes till brown.
Makes about 10
I didnt have buttermilk here so I made the sour milk equivlent of that and I cut back a bit on the sugar only using 1/4c. instead of 1/3c.
The bf proclaimed them awesome and I have to agree so I guess Ill be making these more often. BTW whenever I make pancakes or french toast I freeze the extras. A quick zap in the microwave and Ive got an instant breakfast. I never toss the leftovers away. I know my dog wishes I would tho . I frequently add vanilla to my pancakes when I make them but today I did them just as you see. I asked the bf if he thinks it needs it and he says they are perfect just like this. Dont mess with perfection!
Monster X-presso Hammer - the newest addition to the Canadian line up of Monster iced coffee energy drinks and my first iced coffee energy drink review in a long time. I know this has been in the States for some time now, but this is a brand new arrival in Canadian stores. Unlike the other new Monster arrivals, this one still has the old pull-tab on top.
Before I even proceeded to open this drink, I noticed the size - 285 mL in a 340 mL can. That is weird, until I saw the explanation on the side - 285 mL of liquid and the rest is room for the foam, or also called "foam zone".
Taste
Well, it tastes the way it is described in the can - like espresso and milk. It is very creamy and starts off with a mild coffee taste and lot of cream, but by the end, the cream taste disappears and the bold espresso taste steps in. This is not like the other Monster iced coffees on the market, it has a much bolder, very espresso-like, not very sweet coffee taste, which is something I absolutely love. The aftertaste is of coffee and long lasting, but due to the milk part, it does turn a little raunchy after a while. I like this iced coffee and would definitely buy it again.
Energy
Whoa, I was shocked to learn that there are 225 mg of caffeine in this can. The liquid part is just over 250 mL, the amount you get in a small Red Bull can, yet it packs almost 3 times the caffeine. Does it work? Well, yeah! I really needed this energy drink since I only got a few hours of sleep last night and sure enough, 15 minutes after I started to drink it, I started to wake up, but very slowly. I don't think this iced coffee energy drink has the same amount of sugar as some of the other energy drinks, which really cuts down on the immediate sugar impact. The caffeine started to kick in more around 30 minutes later, but the effect was not like that of energy drinks, it reminded me more of diluted coffee. Sure there is a lot of caffeine, but it just wasn't quite working the way I expected it to. Don't get me wrong, I still felt energized, but my brain was half asleep and was having hard time focusing. At least that is what happened the first hour. In the second hour, I finally started to feel focused and experience the effects of the iced coffee, which were great, but took their sweet time. The effects lasted for a few hours and it was all good. I did not experience a crash and was rather pleasantly peppy for most of the day.

The tradition of football clubs having a nickname often extends back to when the club was first created.
In Britain, football club nicknames basically fall into five broad categories:-
1/ Colours - not very imaginative for obvious reasons, e.g The Blues, The Reds, The Sky Blues.
2/ Animals - only slightly more creative, e.g The Rams, The Tigers, The Foxes, The Lions, The Terriers.
Birds are a particularly popular choice, e.g The Eagles, The Seagulls, The Robins, The Magpies, The Owls, The Canaries.
3/ The Town's Traditional Industry - e.g The Hatters, The Irons, The Railwaymen, The Silkmen, The Saddlers, The Chairboys, The Glovers, The Tractor Boys, The Cobblers, The Blades.
4/ Local Landmarks - e.g The Minstermen, The Imps, The Spireites.
5/ The Obscure - Often endlessly debated and ultimately incomprehensible, e.g The Baggies, The Monkeyhangers, The Shakers, The Pilgrims and Posh.
A glance through the League's nicknames is still a pretty reliable guide to 19th-century industrial England, when you could safely assume that shoes came from Northampton, chairs from Wycombe and saddles from Walsall.
From the 1960's some clubs began to discard nicknames that they felt didn't convey the right kind of image. Such clubs included Chelsea (formerly The Chelsea Pensioners, now The Blues), Crystal Palace (formerly The Glaziers, now The Eagles) and Reading (formerly The Biscuitmen, now The Royals).
Bristol Rovers are officially known as The Pirates, but more commonly as The Gas, after the gasworks next to their former ground at Eastville.
Fans of Everton and Manchester City are these days reluctant users of their given names, The Toffees and The Citizens respectively.
Swansea City, officially The Swans, have also adopted the town's nickname of The Jacks, allegedly after the 1930's lifesaving exploits in Swansea docks of a black retriever called, unsurprisingly Jack.
Charlton have without doubt the least conclusive or decisive club nickname in the league, flirting between The Robins, The Valiants and The Addicks. The Addicks is a corruption of the word 'haddocks' and named after a local fish and chip shop, and also apparently because a local fish man would shout 'haddocks'..........all very odd!
In 1997 after leaving their Roker Park ground, Sunderland formerly The Rokerites decided to be known as The Black Cats.
More recently a few clubs have adopted more snazzy go-getting names, such as QPR's 'Superhoops', Wimbledon's 'Crazy Gang' and Scottish club Livingston's 'Livi Lions.' Thankfully football has been largely immune to the American-inspired rebranding efforts that have affected some sports, including rugby league and to a certain degree limited overs cricket.
Scotland has it's own tradition of colourful nicknames, most of which are attached to the more unassuming clubs e.g Forfar (The Loons), Montrose (The Gable Endies), and Arbroath (The Red Lichties).
The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the club the less likely it is to have an intriguing or unusual nickname. Notable exceptions outside of Britain might be Real Madrid (The Meringues) and Juventus (The Old Lady).

RT managed to get in touch with some eye-witnesses of the blasts at Moscow's busiest airport, Domodedovo, which killed at least 35 people. Around one hundred and thirty others have been hurt by the blast in the luggage collection area of the international arrivals hall. Police say one, or several suicide bombers could be to blame.
