Zucchini Bread

When I moved into my second house many yrs ago, a neighbor made this and sent some over to my house with her daughter. She and my daughter had become friends right away. I thought it was a nice gesture and my next thought was ......eeewwww zucchini. But I went ahead and tasted it so at least I could say I ate some and not lie about it. lol. But omg , this recipe is awesome!!! I had to get it from her and told her how wonderful it was. She generously shared it with me and now its become a regular in my own home recipe files.

This is the original recipe.....the only change that I made is , I peeled and seeded the zucchini. In this way you get all the good stuff even from the huge zucchini. There's no green flecks to gross some out and you de-seed the huge ones so all you get is pulp. Then I grate it on the lg. part of my grater. I like to use pecans but walnuts are yummy too. And imagine using another extract and perhaps some orange or lemon zest for a change. YUM!


Zucchini Bread
Makes 2 9 x 5 in. loaves

3 eggs
1 c. salad oil
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. grated raw zucchini
3c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. b. soda
2 tsp. b. powder
1 c. chopped nuts

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Fill and bake for 1 hr. at 350 degrees.

My Lily Tier Cake

This cake was my final project for Wilton Course 3. I made the lilies and leaves with royal icing a few days ahead of time. The 6 inch and 10 inch tiers are both lemon cake with a homemade raspberry filling. I crumbcoated them with a buttercream frosting and then topped them with a homemade marshmallow, lemon fondant. I thought it turned out very well. A perfect cake for Easter. Too bad Easter is still a couple weeks away.

Sole Maté Lemon Lime Review

This is one of those rare drinks that you might find at small stores that carry a lot of organic products. This is a local beverage, made in Kitchener, Ontario and retails for $1.75 CAD or for a toonie at some places, tax included. It comes in two varieties - original and lemon lime. They are easily distinguished by their caps - original is orange and lemon lime is green.

For those who have never had maté before, the lemon lime flavour tastes a bit like coke but with a slightly dry and very distant lime taste. For those who have had yerba maté before (real maté in a gourd), this is tastes like a watered down maté with very little sugar and a hint of lime. The aftertaste is heavy on the mate with a faint lime note yet quite refreshing. The lemon can be barely tasted.

The caffeine content is not too high, but it is all natural from the mate - 60 mg per bottle. I like drinking this during the day for the refreshing taste and the temporary boost.

I have mentioned earlier that I prefer to take photos after I have tried a drink which means that you can't see what the drink looks like. However, with most beverages, people know what color to expect based on the flavours. But what should you expect from a maté drink? Well this flavour looks golden indoors and light yellow with a green hue outdoors, or exposed to direct light.

Cost - $1.75 CAD for a 296 mL bottle
Taste - 9.1/10
Energy - 6/10

Overall - 15.1/20...don't expect a lot of energy from this drink, but do expect a clean, refreshing taste

'My Goal Of The Week' - Marta Vieira da Silva for Brazil at the Women's World Cup.

'My Goal of the Week' was scored by Marta Vieira da Silva on 27th September, for Brazil against the US during their semi-final match in Hangzhou, China at the Women's World Cup 2007.

Marta, only 21 (pictured right) was born in Alagoas, Brazil and plays her club football in Sweden for 'Umea IK.'

She is the 2006 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, was runner-up in 2005 and is currently the World Cup's leading scorer with seven goals in just five games.

Marta scored twice against the U.S, her second a magnificent individual effort in the 80th minute. Taking a pass from Renata Costa outside the penalty area, and with her back to goal she deftly flicked the ball with her left foot over both her head and that of U.S.defender Tina Ellertson to break into the box. She then cut back inside to avoid defender Catherine Whitehill, before firing a low 12-yard shot with her right foot into the bottom corner of the net to put Brazil 4-0 up.

Brazil's 4-0 rout of the Americans in the semi-final played in front of 47,818 at Hangzhou Dragon Stadium, saw the U.S teams 51-match unbeaten run come to an end.

Now Brazil will play tournament favourites Germany in the Final on Sunday 30th September at Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium.

The U.S. will face Norway for third place on Sunday in a match that will precede the Final.

Summer Salad ~ Cold Pea Salad

The nice weather is here and the BBQ's have started so I thought Id post one of my quick salad recipes. I like this one because its made with frozen peas. You dont cook it, no really, you just thaw them. This way they stay sweet and a bit crunchy. And splurge on Macadamias if you make this. They are so creamy and buttery and just perfect for this salad. I never have any of this salad left when I bring it to parties and picnics.

COLD ENGLISH PEA SALAD

2lbs. frozen peas

1c. sliced water chestnuts

1 bunch watercress, chopped

1/2c. macadamia nuts, chopped

1c. mayonnaise ( I use Best Foods, its Hellman's on the east coast)

1/2c. fat free sour cream

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 green onions, chopped

1/3c. parsley, chopped

3 tb. chopped fresh tarragon ( or 1tb. dried)

Thaw peas in a strainer under running warm water, drain well. These will not be cooked, they really don't need to be. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Chill.

** You could use sugar snap peas added to this for extra texture.

Mr Brown Cappuccino Review

I have seen this drink in several major supermarkets. It's always in the international aisle, rather than the drinks one. There are several different kinds and the one I picked was the cappuccino flavour. The price does not vary much - I bought mine for $0.97 CA from t & t while other places sell them for $0.99.

The drink does not taste as good as other iced coffees. It tastes like sweetened milk with a mild coffee flavour. I don't even think that it's real milk because the aftertaste is a bit sour. The coffee taste is stronger after you are done drinking it, but it does not taste as good as other iced coffees.

I didn't feel much of an energy boost, but I was not really tired. I think that's an indication that this was developed to be a milk drink and the coffee taste was added as an afterthought.

I can only recommend this to those who enjoy milk beverages. If you are looking for an iced coffee that tastes more like coffee and has a bit of sugar and milk added, look somewhere else.

Scores:

Cost - 10/10 ($0.97 CA)

Taste - 4.9/10

Performance - 1/10

Overall - 15.9/30...the only reason why this gets a passing grade is because it's cheap and those who enjoy milk beverages

might enjoy this one

Bend It Like Bentley!

Although we are only in October, the 'Goal of the Season' competition was effectively 'WON' last night by Tottenham midfielder David Bentley.

His glorious 35 yard long range dipping volley in the stunning 4-4 draw with Arsenal was arguably one of the 'greatest goals of its type' ever witnessed in the modern day era!

I know there are still about 6 months of the season remaining, but it is hard to imagine witnessing an equally good or an even better individual goal again this season........but we shall have to wait and see!

I can only think of two possible goals in recent times that might be considered on a par with Bentley's.
Firstly Matt Taylor's long range strike for Pompey v. Everton in 2006.Link

......and secondly Thierry Henry's volley against Man.Utd in 2000.Link

BaBoom Energy Spray Review

Today I am trying something different, an energy spray I picked up from 7-11 for $4.99. Five dollars sounded like a lot of money but when I checked out the online store on BaBoom's website, I was happy to discover that the price online is $6.99.

Don't let the container fool you, the spray is not as big. The bottle resembles breath sprays only it comes in a screaming red color with a red cap. There is not much else to the spray bottle.

The manufacturer recommends using the energy spray 5 sprays at a time with the bottle containing enough liquid to last 150 sprays. I don't feel like wasting my $5 all at once so I cannot confirm that this number is correct. I will only assume that the actual number falls within the 150 shots. The spray does not taste bad. It tastes like a not so tasty energy shot only that once the liquid reaches the tongue and the throat it does not instantly turn bitter or soapy. Since each set of sprays - 5 burst in total, contain only 1.3 calories, the taste is like a sugar free drink. The label says that the flavour is watermelon/orange but what I tasted mostly was the orange part. There is a faint sweet taste which might resemble that of watermelon, but I cannot say for sure. The aftertaste is nothing impressive and the only good thing I can say about it is that it is not foul, bitter or disgusting in any way. Perhaps for the next flavour release, I would strongly recommend peppermint or spearmint so this energy spray can double as a breath spray.

The label says nothing about the amount of caffeine present in each spray, but I can say that it is not too much since 5 is the suggested number of sprays. With 5 sprays I did get a buzz after only 10 minutes, but I also got an elevated heart rate, which is something I have only gotten after drinking a can of Rage Wrath. The buzz does not last a long time - 40 or so minutes. But when you have 150 shots at your disposal, this isn't much of an issue. I like the quick delivery, but perhaps a bit more caffeine can be added.

Medicinal Ingredients: vitamin B3, vitamin B6, taurine, caffeine.

Non-Medicinal Ingredients: water, glucose, glycerin, artificial flavours, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, ascorbic acid, saccharin sodium, sodium glycocholate, sodium lauryl sulfate.

Scores:
Cost - $4.99 per spray
Taste - 6/10
Energy - 6/10

Overall - 12/20...not bad for something so unique

'Brits All Ready To Hit The Ground Running' - Betting Tips with Betfair

In the last five years English teams have dominated Europe's premier competition and while that may not last forever, few would bet against a perfect start to this year's event, for all four Premier League sides.

Last night Chelsea and Manchester United both picked up three points, with victories against Porto and Besiktas respectively.

Tonight sees Liverpool and Arsenal enter the fray as they take on Standard Liege and Champions League newcomers Debrecen of Hungary.

There's very little value to be had backing a Liverpool victory, with the Reds as short as 1.11 in the match odds. However, there could be money to be made by predicting a high scoring affair. All three of Liverpool's wins this season have witnessed four goals or more and with Debrecen inexperienced at this level, there could be another goal fest at Anfield.

The Champions League betting odds currently stand at: over 3.5 goals in the match available at 2.08, with +4.5 goals a tempting 3.55.


Arsenal should face a tougher test as they travel to Belgium to play Standard Liege. The hosts came within two minutes of taking Liverpool to penalties in last season's Champions League third qualifying round and could provide tricky opposition for Arsene Wenger's team.

Unfortunately for Liege, they will face an Arsenal side with a real point to prove, after suffering successive league defeats. Arsenal can be backed to win both halves at 2.86 but if you fancy an upset, the Belgian champions look good value at 5.5 in the 'draw no bet' market.

Elsewhere, Rangers will be desperate to restore some pride in Scottish football after the national side's failure to qualify for the World Cup.

German side Stuttgart stand in their way, but could be prime candidates for an upset after picking up just five points from their opening five league matches in the Bundesliga.
Rangers are a massive 6.6 to win the game and complete a good opening week for Brits abroad.

Could a Simple Chemistry Lesson be at the Heart of a Winning Formula for England at the World Cup?

AIM:

To win a football match, by way of scoring more goals than the opposing side, and in doing so by keeping within the laws of the game.

APPARATUS:

a) 16 players (11 of whom must only be on the field of play at the start of the game)
b) Management team + a bench
c) Matching shirts + shorts + socks (players must provide their own footwear)
d) Seeded grass area with the appropriate markings in white paint
e) Two standard sized goals with netting
f) One official 'Jabulani' adidas ball
g) Flags on sticks
h) One referee + whistle + watch + coloured cards
i) Two assistant referees + flags
j) One further official + display board
k) Crowd of paying spectators (optional)

METHOD:

Manager:

1/ Pick one goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 3 or 4 midfield players and 2 or 3 strikers, up to a maximum of 11 players. There is no limit to how many players you can pick from any one club.

2/ Use a tactical formation familiar to the squad selected for the tournament. We shall call this 'Plan A.'
Do not be afraid to experiment if necessary.

3/ Prepare for different scenarios on the training pitch to accommodate even the unlikeliest of events. Remember practice makes perfect

4/ Have a 'Plan B' in case Plan A is not working.

5/ Name your starting XI more than two hours before kick-off. For example, tell them over breakfast (Continental or English style) on the day of a game that starts at 3pm.

6/ Be open with YOUR players. Express your opinions and thoughts to them, and in turn allow them to convey their views and share with you any underlying issues they may have. Bond with them as if they were your family.

7/ At the end of the day do NOT forget YOU are the boss!

Players:

1/ Once the game has begun, pass the ball to your fellow players (those in the same coloured shirts as yourself), rather than to the opponents.

2/ Move the ball in a forward direction whenever possible.

3/ Continue to play the ball back and forth to your team-mates until the final movement of the ball results in the (whole of the) ball crossing a white line painted between two upright sticks 12 yards apart. This is called a goal!

4/ Do your utmost to stop the opposition from doing likewise (legally of course).

5/ After a goal is scored YOU may then run around and celebrate in whatever fashion floats YOUR boat. Be warned - do NOT remove YOUR shirt in celebration or jump into the crowd. These are law breaking offences and could also result in injury. However YOU may perform acrobatics, themed dance routines, kiss, hug, point, cup your ear and shake your booty if you so wish.

6/ Remember a WAG is NOT for life, so sharing a WAG is at the owners discretion. Do NOT do to someone else what YOU would not like done to yourself. Be polite and always ask (JT) first!

RESULT:

Not known at the time of writing, as kick-off is still some 15 hours away. However the bookmakers odds are as follows:

England to win 4/9
Match Drawn 10/3
Slovenia to win 15/2

CONCLUSION:

An England win and they qualify for a place in the last 16.

Premium Pink Energy Review

I have seen this a few places but have never wanted to buy it because of the pink label and the fact that it is sugar free. I was at Zehrs today and came across their Beaver Buzz sale - all Beaver Buzz energy drinks were on sale for $1.79. Check out the pull tab, it is a dead give away that this is made by the same guys who make Beaver Buzz.


Wow, this tastes pretty damn good. If it wasn't sugar free, I would say that this is one of the best tasting energy drinks I have ever had. The artificial sweetener does give it a diet taste. The drink is cloudy and bright pink in color. It looks like the Minute Maid Pink Lemonade. It tastes like a combination of 90% grapefruit juice and 10% lemon juice. I assume the slightly sour taste comes from the citric acid. The drink is not sweet but also not as dull as some diet drinks are. You barely notice that this is a sugar free drink while drinking it. This becomes apparent in the aftertaste, which is a blend of grapefruit and sweetener. Great drink, it is just that some men might feel emasculated drinking this in public.

No need to locate the word "caffeine" in the ingredients list to see how much you are getting because everything is listed in a nice table format. A hundred and twenty milligrams is not bad for a container this size, but you can get more from other Beaver Buzz energy drinks. I was feeling down in the afternoon so I decided to have this. I got a clean boost with no jitters, which lasted for a few hours, enough to get through some boring readings.

Taste - 8.7/10
Energy - 7.3/10

Overall - 16/20...great sugar free energy drink. I think I will give other sugar free drinks a chance

Don't go into the stew!!

We started out effeciency tests around 1PM when we thought everyone was done. We did like 6 effeciency tests, and the whole time we shot this particular bunker. Well they ended up running a "big game" and these poor kids got stuck behind a bunker that had about 5 cases of RPS Premium Pink painted on it, and they were just SOAKED in pink paint.

I felt terrible, that's worse than playing at an indoor field, so we hooked them up with a free pod of RPS paint.

Xyience Xenergy Lemon Blast Energy Drink Review

Yeah, the can is a bit banged up, and yeah, I dropped it on the way to my desk. The good thing is that the mouth opening is on the good side so I don't have to go wash my mug to enjoy this.

The color of the drink surprised me again. I was expecting it to be like the Citrus Slam, clear, but it turned out to be a very pale pink one. What could possibly be in it to make a lemon flavoured drink pink? I know what, cherries! You cannot taste them as much, but subtle hints emerge in the finish. The lemon taste is more apparent in the finish and is very dull while drinking. This is sugar free drink and the company has done a better job at hiding this in the taste. When you have this drink cold, the combination between the temperature and the carbonation will hide almost all of the diet taste. Sweeteners become noticeable in the finish though. The aftertaste has the generic diet mouth-feel and taste. Overall this drink is just as dull in flavour as the Citrus Slam, but has an enjoyable finish with the lemon taste lingering for a while.

Same deal as the Citrus Slam in the caffeine department - 200 mg + whatever else from the guarana. I was feeling great 30 minutes after starting the drink. I wasn't experiencing any jitters, just a lot of energy. This had the same effect like the Citrus Slam - 4 hours with no crash.

Scores:
Cost - $2.99 CAD for a 473 mL can
Taste - 6.8/10...dull flavour
Energy - 8.6/10

Overall - 15.4/20...a lot of energy, but the taste is quite dull
